President's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council

ODEI and DEIC Objectives:
Establish a working partnership that fosters collaboration between ODEI and DEIC and holds us accountable for the creation of outcomes and deliverables that take policy into action. The following objectives are established to:
a. Support ODEI in the creation of short and long-term strategic strategies for the enhancement of faculty, staff and student development, and engagement in matters concerning diversity, equity, and inclusion.
b. Provide a collective and coherent voice and serve as a resource to the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
c. Provide leadership direction to engage Humboldt and the community-at-large and serve as change agents to promote cultural change initiatives to improve the campus climate.
The DEIC’s Charge
In keeping with Humboldt's mission to “welcome students from California and the world…[and] to prepare individuals to be responsible members of diverse societies,” the Humboldt Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council (DEIC) will work in partnership with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) to provide advisory council and leverage expertise to create institutional and systemic change collectively.  By applying an equity lens, the DEIC will assist ODEI in making recommendations and raising awareness of ways to improve Humboldt's diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. This will take place by the establishment of three sub-committees with a focus on:

a. Faculty and staff development and professional opportunities                                                                                                                                                                                            
b. What it means for Humboldt to be a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI)                                                                                                                                                                                         
c. Inclusive teaching strategies and culturally relevant pedagogy
The first convening of the Cal Poly Humboldt Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council was held on October 22, 2018 at 10:00 AM.  Twenty-one individuals have been selected for positions on this council.  Discussed at this first meeting will be organizational structure, re-occurring meeting dates, as well as, goals and objectives.
